At Chattenden Primary School we believe that Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
Our music curriculum allows children the opportunity to learn to sing, use their voices, create and compose their own music, learn musical instruments, perform, explore and evaluate. Music at Chattenden not only teaches skills but offers enjoyment and inspires a life-long love of performing and music.
Specialist Music Teaching
Across Keystages 1 and 2 we have specialist music teachers from Dynamics – Medway Music Education Hub. This allow children to access the curriculum fully, and in Keystage 2 learning to play specific instruments as a whole class such as the ukulele and the recorder as well as other percussion instruments.
Brass and Guitar Music Lessons
Specialist teachers provide additional opportunities to learn the guitar and brass instruments across Keystage 2.
Chattenden School Choir
Chattenden is very proud of the school choir which performs annually at the O2 London, for the Young Voices Concert and at the Central Theatre, Chatham for the Medway Music Festival.
Our musicians enjoy showcasing their talents at the end of year ‘Summer Showcase’ whereby parents are invited to see their child sing and play their instruments. The children grow in confidence and their passion for music is enhanced as they are given the opportunity to perform.
Keystage 1 host a Nativity performance within the school hall where parents and members of the community are invited to spectate.
Keystage 2 host the Christmas Carol Concert at Finsbury church. Soloists are invited to sing and accompany the choir as they lead the carols for our school community.
