Design and Technology

At Chattenden Primary School, we aim for design and technology to support and develop the children’s creativity and imagination when creating products with a function. The children are encouraged to become independent, creative problem-solvers, working both as individuals and as part of a team. The design process including designing creating and evaluating, runs throughout the school. This process encourages children to identify problems and evaluate existing products. We actively encourage the children to take risks when designing and creating solutions for their projects.

As well as regular DT teaching, our annual STEAM week sees the children innovate in a school wide project. We were very proud of our year 6 children who recently took their cable cars to The Big Steam Challenge Final. They represented the school brilliantly and were able to talk confidently about their design project.
